Our corner of DC
You'll spot the colors before you spot the sign
Mecca Fragrance Oils & Bookstore has sat at Florida and Georgia Avenue NW since the nineties, a block from Howard's gates — a bright painted front that people notice from across the street. Inside, the space is tight and the shelves run floor to ceiling. That's part of the charm.
Mr. Abdul and the staff will ask what you already wear and pull a few bottles off the wall for you — there are more oils here than most people knew existed. Alongside them we keep incense we dip ourselves, raw shea butter, African black soap, wildcrafted sea moss, kufis and tasbih, and books.

“If you're looking for oils, this is really the place to go. There are more oils than I knew could exist — and the prices are fair.”
“The workers are very friendly, it always smells amazing, and the inventory is deep. It's a tight space, but it's worth it.”
“I wasn't sure why we stopped in, but I'm glad we did — organic soaps, peppermint whipped shea butter, and staff who actually help.”
